Silent letters

Elementary (A1-A2)

This lesson focuses on the spelling and pronunciation of common words with silent letters. Students start by reviewing the alphabet before listening to a short speech from a tour guide and completing related activities. They list and categorise words with silent letters and then practise the target language in speaking and writing. There is a short optional extension activity in which students describe a day out in London, using words from A to Z.

Volunteering

Intermediate (B1-B2)

The topic of this lesson is volunteering and why more teenagers are deciding to give up their free time for a cause they believe in and how it can benefit them to do some voluntary work. Students read an article about the benefits of volunteering and skills teenagers can develop from doing it. Students will take part in a roleplay between prospective volunteers and employers and also get the chance to write an email to apply for a voluntary role. In addition to this, students have an extra real-world project of researching an organisation they would be interested in working for as a volunteer.
